I scream, you scream, we all scream we all scream for the best vegan ice cream!

It’s 2018, and finally our favorite brands are receiving our emails and cries for dairy free help (we’re looking at you Ben and Jerry’s). We asked for quality vegan ice cream, and we’ve got them in more flavors and brands than we ever dreamed of.

Do you know which country leads the world in ice cream consumption? It’s America (no surprise) with an average consumption of 26 liters of ice cream per person, per year.

That’s almost 60 pints of ice cream! At times we feel personally responsible for that number, but when we find a good pint of vegan ice cream, we just can’t help but devour the stuff.

In this article, we aren’t going to cover the basic brands you already know (and love) like So Delicious, Häagen-Dazs, and Breyers Non-Dairy. Although they’re great choices and can easily be found in your local grocery store, we’re diving into some exotic brands with some awesome new flavors that you probably haven’t heard of.  

That’s right; we called in all our vegan sweet-tooth experts for this one. We’re all about trying new things and expanding our vegan palate. With so many brands and flavors, who has time to be boring, Amirite?

The Best Vegan Ice Cream Brands to Scoop into Your Bowl

You might have to run out to a specialty store or order online for some of these but trust us; it’s so worth it. Try not to drool on yourself while reading this, but if you do, we understand. Welcome to vegan heaven, friends.

1. Van Leeuwen Artisan Vegan Ice Cream

Van Leeuwen started scooping ice cream from the side of an ice cream truck on the streets of New York in 2008. Now they have stores (and trucks) in NY and LA and sell pints all over the country.

Each scoop of their dairy free vegan ice cream is made with their housemade cashew milk, organic coconut milk, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic cane sugar, pure cocoa butter, and organic carob bean. We love avocados whether it’s in guac form, blended into our pestos, or just sliced raw. But we have to admit; we never thought we’d enjoy an ice cream made of this fruit (yes, it’s technically a fruit; to be specific, it’s a large, single-seeded berry).

Enjoy flavors like deep dark chocolate, vanilla bean, mint chocolate chip, and simply lemon. Keep an eye out for their new flavors: salted caramel swirl, cherry amaretto, and java chip!

3. Booja Booja Vegan Ice Cream

We’d like to start off by saying this is not just a vegan ice cream brand, but a vegan chocolate truffle brand as well. Did you just fall in love too?

If you’re secretly hoping that they incorporate their truffles into their ice cream, then let us be the ones to tell you that yes, yes they do. This ice cream is so delicious that we are quite tempted to eat the container just to ensure none goes to waste. Devour flavors like raspberry ripple, caramel pecan praline, hunky punky chocolate, and more.

 

4. Halo Top Vegan Ice Cream

This brand is incredible and for a good reason. Not only are they dairy free and vegan but every single flavor is both delicious and low calorie. (Yes, we did try them all. It was for science.)

Even the most decadent, highest calorie flavor is only 360 calories per pint. Wait, right there….PER PINT?! Yes, that wasn’t a typo.

This brand is famous for catering to the “will eat a pint in one sitting” people. Thank you Halo Top for making our dreams come true.

5. Dream Vegan Ice Cream

We love this brand because of all the varieties of ice cream bases they offer. Try out their soy-based style called Soy Dream. Avoiding soy? No problem; try Almond Dream or Coconut Dream. Nut allergy? No problem; try Rice Dream.

The flavors range from your basics like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, to more exotic like cappuccino swirl, toffee almond fudge, and praline crunch.

6. NadaMoo Vegan Ice Cream!

NadaMoo! was casually started in 2004 as small batches of coconut milk ice cream for friends and family. When word spread about how decadent (and healthy) it was, people started showing up on the family’s porch with their spoons out and ready. From there, NadaMoo! was born.

Their flavors are out of this world; you must try them all. There were too many to list but here are a few of our favorites.

This unique Colorado-based company sources hemp milk for its ice cream base. No. The answer to your question is no; no you won’t get high (well maybe a sugar high) but not the kind you’re thinking about.

The flavors come in Mocha Mint, Jasmine Flowers, Mango Love, Double Dutch Chocolate, and Unbleached Vanilla. These delicious frozen treats contain more protein than whole milk (without the pus), so there’s no reason to feel guilty about these treats. We see it as an excuse to eat ice cream after a workout.
